Connecticut Dental Hygienists' Association Inc. JOINS CONNGAP COALITION; URGES WOMEN TO SUBMIT RESUMES FOR GUBERNATORIAL APPOINTMENTS
As a member of the 75-member non-partisan Connecticut Government Appointments Project (ConnGAP) coalition, the Connecticut Dental Hygienists' Association Inc.(CDHA) urges all qualified women in our network to consider submitting their resumes to the pool of candidates currently being assembled by the ConnGAP Steering Committee. ConnGAP is a bold new initiative launched recently by the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) to ensure political parity for women. Through ConnGAP, the PCSW will provide the governor-elect with a pool of qualified women for about 75 high-level, paid positions within state government identified by PCSW.
At a press conference and kick-off Sept. 8 at the State Capitol, ConnGAP organizers issued a call for resumes as the first step in creating the candidate pool, which ConnGAP will present to the new governor and his transition team to ensure that qualified women are considered when the governor makes his appointments.
Although women comprise 51% of the state's population, they hold only 37% of top offices in State agencies, including those of commissioner, executive director and chief advocate. Women will be recommended for any positions for which they are qualified, regardless of their stands on particular issues and/or party affiliation. Candidates must have demonstrated executive level skills in strategic planning, management, budgeting and public policy.
"We are very pleased to work with CDHA on ConnGAP," said PCSW Executive Director Teresa Younger. "Their support of this non-partisan effort will move the state closer to a government whose make-up more accurately reflects all of Connecticut, including the 51 percent that are women. Connecticut's governor-elect will have the opportunity to recognize that women are a largely untapped resource for professional and dedicated government service."
